Twitter: New Ad Transparency Measures

Written by Deirdre Keon on 31st October 2017

Twitter announced recently that the company plan to take action to increase transparency for all ads on Twitter, including political ads and issue-based ads.

Twitter’s new transparency measures include the creation of an Advertising Transparency Center that will allow users to view what advertising campaigns are currently active on the site.

According to Twitter, the ‘Transparency Center will show all ads that are currently running on Twitter including Promoted-Only ads, how long ads have been running, ad creative associated with those campaigns and ads targeted to you, as well as personalized information on which ads you are eligible to receive based on targeting’.

Additional new measure will include a special label for ads funded by political campaigns, including details on who the ad was targeted at, unspecified penalties for companies that push political ads without being transparent about their origin.

Users will also have the ability to easily report inappropriate ads or give negative feedback for each ad running, whether the ad targets you or not.

Twitter mentioned also that these transparency efforts will go live in the US first but plan to roll the initiative out globally.
